Housing Authorities (HA) can mean different things to different First Nations. In some communities, a housing department could be referred to as a HA. In other cases, a housing committee may be viewed as a HA. However, legally, and practically, these departments and committees are not HA.
The focus of this webinar is to examine the structure and function of a HA. The webinar will concentrate on how a HA operates at armβs length from Council, how is this accomplished and how a HA can change the overall housing structure in communities.

Instructional Hours:
Course notes/readings materials should be reviewed prior to webinar.
Webinar - 4 hours total
Webinar 1 will focus on an overview of housing authorities that function off reserve. Important to look at how these organizations function and what lessons can we learn.
Webinar 2 will focus on housing authorities on reserve and what how it functions at βarmβs lengthsβ from Council.
Webinar 3 will focus on how to implement housing authorities. This will include conducting community consultations.
Webinar 4 β will focus on the roles and responsibilities of the housing authorities including the maintenance of homes and the collection of rent.
